In the Shoes of Pop Culture
In the Shoes of Pop Culture explores celebrity through one of its most intimate and recognisable objects: the shoe.
Drawing on the visual language of popular culture, Kalen Lennox transforms personal objects associated with iconic figures into contemporary artefacts. Encased in resin, the shoes are removed from their original function and suspended in time, becoming objects of memory, desire and collective fascination.
The series reflects on the complex relationship between celebrity and the public: the tension between familiarity and distance, accessibility and obsession. An everyday object becomes untouchable, preserved almost as a museum relic.
Colour, embedded objects and biographical references add another layer to each sculpture, creating an individual portrait without relying on a conventional likeness. The result sits somewhere between Pop Art, portraiture and contemporary archaeology.
